Stena has been involved for many years in the recovery of any type of lamps (fluorescent light bulbs and other mercury containing bulbs).
The process is simple but yet efficient. The lamps are crushed in a special shredder, equipped with a suction system to separate the fluorescent powders containing mercury from the rest of the material. Before being recycled the mixed material and various metals (like iron, aluminum and brass) are separated in a process. The new raw-material is now unpolluted and ready for a new life cycle.
Did you know? The use of fluorescent bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs lowers the energy use. It is also more cost effective because they last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs.
